Pixline vs Pixieset
Pixieset is a gallery platform. Pixline is a delivery platform for events with many different people in the photos. If your event has one buyer, Pixieset is probably the better product. If it has forty, read on.
What Pixieset does well
- Website builder with a custom domain, print store with automatic fulfilment, contracts, invoices, booking, and an AI photo editor. Pixline has none of those and is not trying to.
- Ten years in market, over a million photographers, and galleries that look good. Pixline's galleries are plainer.
- Online proofing — clients mark favourites and leave comments. If that is your workflow, Pixieset does it and Pixline does not.
Where delivery breaks for an event with forty kids
Pixieset's unit of delivery is the collection. A collection has no concept of who is in a photo, so every person in the room gets the same gallery. The complaints from people who pay for it are specific:
“Clients hate mobile downloads on Pixieset… having to click the download button, open a new tab, hold down to save, is a pain for iPhone users.” — r/WeddingPhotography
“Just delivered a 700 photo gallery and already received 3 beautiful texts from the bride saying half the photos won’t open on her iPhone.” — r/WeddingPhotography
“Uploads ALWAYS fail. Despite having great wifi, uploads continually fail.” — Trustpilot, Sep 2026
What Pixline does instead
| Problem | Pixieset | Pixline |
|---|---|---|
| Forty families, one gallery | Everyone sees all 200 photos | Faces are clustered into people; each family gets its own link with only their photos |
| Getting files onto a phone | ZIP of the whole collection | A save-all page of 13 direct image links, verified in a 390×844 phone viewport |
| Uploads failing mid-shoot | Client-side loop; leave the page and progress stops | Server-side ingest batch, four parallel workers, per-file accounting. 200 files in 62.2 s, 0 failed |
| Who actually got the photos | Download activity per gallery | Views and downloads per family, plus a suppression list that names the families whose email bounced |
These are measured on the staging deployment: open the demo event and look at what each family sees.
Price
| Tier | Pixieset | Pixline |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 3 GB, unlimited galleries, 15% commission on store sales | One event, 100 photos, 30-day galleries, Pixline-branded, no commission |
| Paid | $8–$40/mo depending on storage and email volume; the suite bundle starts at $28/mo | $9.99/mo or $99/yr. 100 GB, unlimited events, unlimited families, 0% commission |
When Pixieset is the right choice
Weddings, real estate, and any event where one person buys everything. In those cases a gallery, a website and a print store in one product is genuinely better than what Pixline offers. Pixline is for the shoots where the people in the photos are not the people buying them.
